Your ecological survey might result in the requirement for habitat enhancement through a variety of different methods including pond creation, site clearance and hibernacula design.

Southern Ecological Solutions implementation team offer many services that contribute to the enhancement of your surrounding environment and in some instances are necessary for some translocations/mitigation scheme. Their environment enhancement services include:

Pond creation

SES has a dedicated design team and in house implementation division that participates in Phase 1 of the Million Ponds Project which runs from 2008 to 2012. This project aims to help to create the first 5,000 clean water ponds in England and Wales. We also carry out enchantment work and relining of existing ponds.

Hibernacula creation & Design

Sometimes as part of protected species mitigation and enchantment schemes new habitat may need to be created; part of this could include the installation of hibernacula for amphibian and or reptiles to seek shelter. We offer a number of different hibernacula designs and sizes depending on the species present and existing habitat quality. We are happy discuss these with you.

Site clearance or sensitive scrub clearance

SES has a fully trained and experienced site clearance team that are extremely cost effective. We are also IEEM (the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management) trained to carry out sensitive site clearance where there is a chance of harm to wildlife and many of our operative's hold great crested newt licences and attend reptile, water vole, badger and dormice training courses run by IEEM.

This enables them to identify potentially protected habitats and species and allows SES to offer on the spot advice, finding the best way forward for projects, avoiding potentially costly delays and fines.

Strimming areas of donor site can be used to facilitate and speed up translocations on some reptile projects. We also have foresters that hold the CS30 and CS31 certificate.

Hedge and tree planting

SES has a passionate team of horticulturists whose aim is to increase the connectivity within the landscape by creating new habitats and by repairing existing habitats such as defunct hedgerows. Our arboriculturalists can also implement tree planting schemes, which have an intrinsic ecological value but can also help cancelling out some of your company or personal carbon foot print.

Wildlife gardens

SES have designed and created 100’s of wildlife gardens for mitigation project and also in schools for use as a teaching tool. When we create a wildlife gardens health and safety is our top priority and with innovative design features and use of existing new products we offer a safe environment to learn and a chance to replace lost habitat for insects, amphibians and reptiles. As part of our schools service we can offer information packs for teachers and students.

The SES implementation team in conjunction with SES ecologists have carried out extensive habitat creation works including the creation of 750m of new wetland habitats within the Medway Estuary and Marshes SPA
