Both The Protection of Badgers Act 1992 and the Planning Policy Statement 9 (PPS9) outline the requirement for protection of badgers and the requirement for suitable mitigation. One aspect of the translocation process is the creation of suitable badger fencing systems or badger gates. SES stock three specifications of the Highways Agency approved high grade mesh fence with an under lap installed underground adding to this products formidable anti-burrow properties. This fencing also has the strength to provide an effective barrier for livestock. SES has extensive experience installing these products but can also supply badger fencing in rolls. The three specifications are as per line drawing below:

Badger gates Specifications

SES stock two types of badger gates an Oak badger gate meeting suggested DEFRA specifications and a reusable long lasting galvanised steel gate that meets Highways Agency standards; each gate can facilitate both repeated badger access and exclusion. The Oak badger gate is 200mmx 250mmx 50mm; the galvanised steel gate has dimensions of 850mmx 400mm.
