Biodiversity Statements
Biodiversity statements are reports that discuss the ecological status of a site and provide advice on how biodiversity can be protected and enhanced within a development. A field survey is often undertaken and Local Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs) are consulted so recommendations are tailored to reflect biodiversity priorities in the local area.
These statements are required by local planning authorities when meeting their obligations under Planning Policy Statement 9 (PPS9); which requires planners not only to protect biodiversity, but where possible to enhance it.
